Job Description

Position Summary

The Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for Island Doctors patients in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and standards of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with the primary healthcare team to provide patients with primary medical care services within the standard of care for primary care patients.
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
  • Assist with training and compliance actions.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Minimum Education requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of medicine
  • Current Medical Doctor (MD) or Osteopathic Doctor (DO) Licensure
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • At least one year of experience in a similar position is desired.

Standing for long periods of time; bending, reaching, and walking to look for charts; finger dexterity for accurate terminal input; visual acuity to work in front of video display terminal; ability to cope with heavy workload volume; ability to mind-block outside noise and traffics movement for concentration; ability to work in physically small and highly exposed traffic area.

  5. Complies with other duties as requested by supervisors.

 Public Relations Requirements:

  1. Represents Practice in a professional and courteous manner.
  2. Dresses in proper office attire.
  3. Divulges absolutely no confidential information to unauthorized individuals.
  4. Uses proper telephone courtesy when answering phone.

 Other Requirements:

  1. Displays knowledge of departmental and office policies and procedures.
  2. Displays knowledge of Disaster Plan and Fire Plan.
  3. Arrives to work on time.
  4. Adheres to schedule unless approved by Supervisor.
  5. Stays in work area unless otherwise directed.
